About Art Again

Art Again’s mission is to keep usable art and creative materials out of the waste stream and put them back into the hands of our community.

Through the collection and reuse of donated art, craft, and creative materials, we work to reduce waste while increasing access to the supplies people need to create, teach, learn, and connect. We provide materials to local teachers, schools, nonprofit organizations, and community programs, helping limited resources go further and making creative opportunities more accessible.

By giving art materials another life, Art Again strengthens our community while demonstrating that creativity and conservation can work hand in hand.

Art Again Teacher Memberships

Our first goal for donated materials is to get art supplies into the hands of our local teachers.

Our teachers are able to shop once a month and fill a large bag with supplies during the school year for a nominal yearly fee of $25.

These spots are currently limited to the first 50 teachers. Teachers from Winchester City, Frederick, and Clarke County public schools are eligible.

Our story

Art Again became a dream after connecting the need for art materials for nonprofits and local teachers with the fact that as Americans, we all have unused supplies sitting in our homes.

What if we were able to just share those supplies with each other and fill multiple needs at once?

Locally we had just lost Joann’s, our most trustworthy fabric supplier in the area. Ideas started swirling after attending Bowman Library’s craft swap. We have all the fabric we’ll ever need, it’s just sitting in someone’s home.

Research led to the creative reuse shop concept, and the idea started fully taking shape.

As a long time supporter of the arts, Misty wanted Art Again to support the community in specific ways, not just as a retail shop.

The Art Again Foundation will serve the community by providing free materials to local arts nonprofits, creating community art projects and creative reuse education from donated materials, and most importantly, getting art materials into the hands of teachers who are shaping our children.

Creating art provides students with essential cognitive, emotional, and social benefits that not only support academic success, but overall growth as a human being.

This results in lifelong benefits. Recent studies show that engaging in hands-on arts and crafts significantly boosts life satisfaction, reduces biological stress hormones like cortisol, and protects aging brains against cognitive decline. Neurologists have found that tactile, rhythmic crafting triggers dopamine release and reconfigures brain networks to quiet anxiety. Ultimately, making things with your hands serves as a powerful, scientifically validated antidote to modern digital burnout.
